Investigate Midwest, featuring its IowaWatch newsroom, brings back its Live Storytelling at The Graduate Hotel in Iowa City on Thursday, November 7. 

Doors open with music starting at 5:30 p.m., with the storytellers starting at 6:30 p.m.  Food and drink will be available throughout the evening.

Tickets are $25 which include a free glass of beer, wine, soda or a themed signature cocktail. They can be purchased at the door or online.

Live storytellers from the area will share their interesting stories around the theme of “Lost and Found: Lost Treasures, Found Journeys: Stories of Discovery.”  

There will be a silent auction and trivia contest. Charity Nebbe, host of Iowa Public Radio’s “Talk of Iowa,”  will be emcee for the evening.

This event is being sponsored in part by Alan Swanson of Blank and McCune Real Estate and fix! Coffee, and is co-produced with the University of Iowa Events Management Certification program.

Our Live Storytellers will be:

Molly Harris (all pronouns) is a poet from West Des Moines, Iowa, and currently resides in Iowa City. Molly graduated from Valley High School in 2022. In Molly’s free time, she likes to color, go on walks, thrift, and spend time with their cat named Pan.

MK Shultz (they/them) is a junior at the University of Iowa from Lawrence Kansas studying Creative Writing, Theatre, and Spanish. Their play, the “T-Rexformation,” was workshopped at the university this fall. They are a member of Paperback Rhino Improv and the occasional standup comedian and costume designer.

Jeff Huettman (he/him) is from Princeton, Iowa, and currently lives in Peosta, Iowa with his wife and three daughters. He studied theatre, computer mediated communications, and ed tech management. He currently works for a large multinational corporation, where he oversees enterprise level computer stuff in the ed tech space. Although he works remote, he has teams in Ireland, India, Boston, and Portland! Some fun facts about Jeff are that he’ll eat anything except eggplant.

Jordan Sellergren (she/her) is the Art Director at Little Village Magazine, a songwriter and musician, a mother, and currently serves as chair of the Iowa City Historic Preservation Commission.

Leslea Haravon Collins (Lea) (she/her) is a writer, cantorial soloist, and teacher. Before becoming an enthusiastic (and very busy!) mother of four, Lea earned her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Cultural Studies of Sport and taught at the university level. A yoga instructor and decades-long practitioner, Lea has taught dance, yoga, and exercise classes throughout her adult life. Lea has conducted conflict mediation sessions, facilitated various small groups, and studied group dynamics. She commits to a daily meditation practice to help keep all of these balls in the air.
